this app used to be wonderful, and now it isnt

This app used to be wonderful two versions back. And now it isnt. Every subsequent "improvement" has made this app less flexible in the Breaths Per Minute and Weekly Target settings, and therefore less useful for my needs. It is a shame, I thought it was a great app when I first got it.

OK but made me almost pass Out

The voice was soothing and sound effects were nice, but I felt lightheaded and almost blacked out at the end. If thats part of the therapy then it worked well.

Works as advertised.

This app seems to help one relax by slowing breathing, and for that, it seems to work well, at least for me. I have been using breath control for relaxation for several years, and though I have a biofeedback machine for this purpose, this app works almost as well. Im a little concerned by Daniels concern that people consult their doctors before embarking on a deep breathing program. Does he also discourage people from using meditation and relaxation without consulting their doctors? Nothing this app does is different from meditation or relaxation techniques for controlling breath. If this works and you dont like or wont take the time to learn these other techniques, go for it. This app seems to be a good shortcut to the breathing techniques of these other tried and true relaxers. Id recommend meditation instead, but most people wont take the time. One neednt worry that one will get brain damage from breathing techniques. You are breathing normal room air, NOT oxygen. You will lose consciousness and breathe normally LONG before your brain is damaged.

great app

This app it a great way to regulate deep breathing exercises. Ive been doing breathing exercises for a while and this app is well made and relaxing. Plus, Its free.

Really relaxing

I love this app i just wish it was longer but i think its to buy th full app. good none the less.

relax

its good if you are trying to force yourself to relax and find some peace ... the options are few but enough to reach the goal of the app . the choir option is my fav.

Great App, why upgrade

This is a message more to the developers. You have a fine program here and as far as I can tell, the only difference between the Free version and the Paid version is the duration of sessions that are limited to / fixed at 5 minutes in the free version. I would encourage you to identify all other improvements that the paid version has over its free sidekick so that users of the free version can clearly see why they would want to upgrade.

Great app!

I use this for myself and to relax my 4 and 6yr olds before bed. My 6 yr old has anxiety issues from time to time and focusing his breathing always helps and this is such a great app to walk him through it with ease!! Love it!!

Breathing is off

I think the direction of this app is great! However, the breathing is off. In yoga, we are taught that breathing is important. We are taught that the inhale and exhale should be the same when being aware and conscious of your breath. For example, if you breathe in for 7 seconds, you breathe out for 7 seconds. If you breathe in for 10 seconds and then hold at the top for 3 seconds, then you breathe out for 10 seconds and hold for 3 seconds at the bottom. I found that this app increased anxiety slightly because the inhale is brief, and the exhale gets ingreasingly longer. Then towards the end, you barely have enough time to fill your lungs with air before the app is already directing you to exhale. I think this needs to be adjusted. Breathing in and holding strengthens the lungs and provides for deeper breathing and therefore deeper relaxation which leads to meditation, and its difficult to train properly or get there with this app. Though, if youve never taken yoga or run track or done sports, then you probably will love this app & youd probably never know the difference.

great free app :)

If ever under stress, Im going to use this app for my break. Cant believe I didnt discover this during my high school years - didnt have a mac then ;] But anywho, this app is great, plus its free. Im going to be a freshman in college this fall and for sure I will be stressed out. I will use this during my study breaks, or any time I fall under stress in general. Handy app ! :) Clears your thoughts and 5 minutes relaxing and having thoughts to yourself can make a huge difference.

Thanks for sparking my interest in being still and focusing on my breath!!!

Got this free in the app store on my iMac with a slew of other apps (i was testing out the app store). Over a weeks time, This is the only one I actually use. Use it pretty much everyday. Getting to be everyday. Would have bought it for my iPhone and ipod touch but it was $2.99 so I got their "Sleeping Zone" app for $0.99 and enjoying it so far (its pretty much the same as this but with sounds to fall asleep to afterwards). Thanks for sparking my interest in being still and focusing on my breath!!! Very powerful! Excited to see it progress! <3 Andrew

Still need to work with it!!

The app is pretty good, I just have not taken the time to really learn how best to use it.

I feel high….

Im going to bed

Great App

Wow, this app made me feel so relaxed, you should download it. Take 4 minutes of your life to just sit, breathe, and relax. Trust me, it works :)

great app to help control your breathing

Ive been using this app to help me control my breathing and help with de-stressing. You must be careful, not everyone can do this at some of the more advanced levels. Start slowly and work your way through it. You do NOT have to do it all. I find the level of breathing that helps me to relax and I stick with that, I never go past that point.

Delivers as Promised

A rarity - this app actually does what it says. Its a good way to slow down your breathing, practice meditation or just relax. The abiility to focus on the screen, the colors, the breathing in and out etc makes it very simple to follow - even for those that are easily distracted.

Very natural relaxation

A cup of organic tension taming tea, this app, and perhaps an (all-natural, of course) melatonin capsule, and Im ready for bed.

Is this hypnosis?

If that is what you are trying to do, congradulations!

actually stressful

the pattern of the breathing was perhaps a bit to rushed, perhaps for of a morning rutine to wake up instead of relax. at least for me. it made me frustrated that even adjusted to a slower pace i still felt rushed. its a meh from me, could be improved with more patterns.

Exactly what I need to help me get through stressful days

This is a wonderful app. The 5 minutes is all I need. I appreciate how simple it is. The only thing it doesnt have is more information. Why is this exercise healthy? What is it doing to my body? Should I ever lower the target bpm? I wish I could read the research associated with this project. Other than that, its a wonderful addition to my day and Im so happy its free!
